 George Washington's character
« Thread Started on Nov 1, 2009, 5:26pm »

Gilbert Stuart - the artist who painted the portrait on the dollar bill - said he saw in Washington's face "the strongest and most ungovernable passions, and had he been born in the forests, it was my opinion that he would have been the fiercest man among the savage tribes."

The above is from A.J. Jacobs' new book, "The Guinea Pig Diaries", in which he reports on various lifestyle experiments he did as a writer for Esquire magazine. There is a whole chapter on how he tried to follow George Washington's Rules of Civility. If you see this book at your library, it is worth checking out just to read this chapter !
