Treasure Trove of Materials « Thread Started on Jan 1, 2009, 11:58am »
My paternal grandmother passed away in 1975. She was the "Keeper of the Family History" and ,when she passed, my father inherited all of her photos, newspaper clippings, notes, and charts. After my father's passing my mother kept them all in a box which she has now has given me. During the past week, I have immersed myself in all this information. I am finding that many of these treasures are now deteriorating with age and so I've taken on the task of scanning them all on to CDs. In the process of organizing and scanning, I am learning so much about my family! I almost feel like I'm meeting them all for the first time. My information goes back to the early 1700s. It's a wonderful gift that my grandmother has left me!!

Annie, you are so lucky to have such a wonderful family collection ! I only have a few things left from my maternal grandparents, and not a thing from the paternal side, except some photos. I wish more photos had been taken when my parents were young. I have one photo of Papa when he was in grade school, but not a single photo of my mother when she was a child. Cindy

Howdy Ladies, A few days ago, I received a book that is dedicated to the Overmayer family, or more exact, the descendants of Capt. John George Overmayer of the Northumberland County Militia, of Penn. This is a fine read as it contains the whole of the family and in a few cases, everyone in the line, clear up to today. Me and Mine are included, which makes me most proud, to say the least. Bragging rights excluded, this is something that every family should have...In some form. If not for today, Then for future generations. When we have our fill of reading the family history, we plan to donate the book to the "Hayes Memorial Library", over in Fremont, Ohio. BTW….Good to see some familiar Avatars. Hi Bushwacker, What a treasure that must be for you ! I hope you plan to make a copy of your name in the book before donating it (which is a fine thing to do, by the way). Cindy
